Ellen is a resilient and highly versatile Zimbabwean Politician, Development and Marketing practitioner, with a strong impetus for social justice, good governance, human rights, women and youth development, with a bias toward making a difference in Zimbabwe. This passion inspired her to be part of the formation of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) firstly as a young student activist and subsequently rising through the ranks to becoming the first female National Youth Secretary General before the MDC split of 2005.
Prior to the MDC Integration in 2018 and appointment to her current position of National Deputy Secretary for Elections in the MDC-Alliance, Ellen was National Director for Elections and later National Director for Planning, Strategy and Implementation in the MDC formerly led by Prof Welshman Ncube.
Her academic qualifications include an MSc in Development Studies and BCom Hons in Marketing Management from the National University of Science and Technology and the Midlands State University respectively. She possesses other several professional qualifications including Gender Studies, Community Development, Programme and Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Research, Negotiations and Mediation, Leadership and Dialogue for Electoral Stakeholders, among others.
Shiriyedenga has professional work experience in the business environment as a Marketer, and in Civic Society working with community, youth, women and human rights organisations focusing on development, governance, civic education and elections. She also had a stint in government as Personal Assistant to the Minister of Education Senator David Coltart during the Government of National Unity of 2009 to 2013.
Ellen is a Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) Alumni and former Feminist committee member of the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY). Who aspires to leave a mark in the realization of the MDC-A goal of winning elections and attaining state power through contributing relentlessly towards the party’s competitive and overarching election strategic thrust, election management and development of effective internal and external electoral systems and processes that ensure fairness, transparency and protection of the individual vote.
